Reporters will learn how to set up their cameras and audio gear to produce professional reports from the field; How to shoot and edit sequences, conduct interviews for film and practice with the editing workflow, story editing and principal technologies.
Working in small groups and using their cameras and editing tools, students will get hands-on experience gathering the elements to put together a news video for the Web.
Seminars provide an illustrated tour of the dynamics of free or low-cost Web-based reporting tools. Topics include RSS, database reporting, social media tools, interactive multimedia, online mapping, podcasts and social networks.
The training will help participants to learn how to innovate on deadline using scalable design strategies, how to use editor-driven and magazine techniques to provide an engaging reader experience. The focus of the training is on techniques for designing new publications or redesigning existing products or sections.
Training consists of lectures, discussions, case studies, critiques and small-groups exercises. Delegates will be required to bring examples of story projects that they think were designed well and, more importantly, examples of those that were not.
Robb Montgomery designs and produces seminars and training curriculum for publishing associations like the Media Management Institute, the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and the Media Development Program. Custom seminars can be organized into one-day or multi-day workshops.
