Brief chat with KT Design Director Raja Choudhury
What is the focus of KT’s new design?
A look at the future, where immersive content and augmented reality will become a staple and upend the pyramid of journalism.
How do you connect the readers from print to mobile?
In a smart new world, a publication — print or digital — no longer holds a mirror to news. You hold a black mirror. That’s the power of imagination and transformation.
Is the print edition and e-paper work similar? Or are you designing the print edition in view of mobile users?
E-paper is passé. Team KT is trying to deliver a sensory experience through linear storytelling, where heightened interactivity and motion graphic will draw a reader’s interest.
How does the new design take a reader from print to video content and social media?
Convergence is the essence in an interconnected world. Because digital platforms talk to one another and offer audiences seamless eye movement. Elegant design, global ethos, easy navigation, visual story-telling and content differentiators will set KT apart from competition.
Tell us about typography?
Dr Mario Garcia believes in minimising the use of fonts for a uniform visual feel. Benchmarking of fonts is the heart of his design mantra, where an uncluttered screen or a page is the hallmark. Gimmicks can wait.
