The “SPORTSTAR” of The Hindu group(India) had redesigned for the modern era
Here is the Editor’s note
Design consultant Mario Garcia says
We already know that 85% of you read Sportstar on a mobile device. That is the backdrop of how we at Garcia Media, working closely with the team of Sportstar have conceptualised the publication you are reading today. First, we have taken into account the rich history of Sportstar, one that makes it one of the most read magazines in India. Second, we analysed ways to incorporate new journalistic strategies that adapt to the digital era of communications in which we now consume news and information. Third, we have redesigned the publication to create pages/screens that are vibrant with visuals, graphics, photos, videos and a legible typeface and appropriate colour palette. We at Garcia Media are honoured to be involved with this transformation.

Kannan Sundar (National Design Editor, The Hindu) adds
When I was 14 years old, I used to scrounge old magazine shops on my bicycle for copies of Sportstar… to look at the pictures of my cricket heroes and make posters of tennis stars over my bed.Newspaper was a luxury in middle class Indian homes and for a young teenager, a magazine with dynamic pictures of sports heroes in action was the latest Playstation. So for this gawky sports fan, working on this redesign is a dream come true. This is my second project alongside Mario Garcia, and that is another fan boy by itself.Sportstar is where sports heroes come alive for fans young and old. And creating a visual identity for Sportstar, in a way that fans could experience the best of human spirit on the pages was both the challenge and the success.I wish our ardent readers a fantastic user experience and I hope many young boys and girls would cut our pages to stick on their walls.
